Understanding the Styrene Price Trend in Q2 2026
Styrene monomer is an important chemical used in the production of several everyday materials, including plastics, resins, rubber products, insulation materials, and packaging-related products. Because of this wide range of uses, its price can be affected by changes in both raw material costs and industrial demand.
During Q2 2026, the global styrene market experienced strong price growth. Compared with the first quarter, prices moved higher in the United States, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Mexico, Kuwait, Germany, China, Brazil, Belgium, India, Singapore, and Malaysia.
The main reason was a combination of higher production costs and supply uncertainty. Stronger crude oil values and increased benzene costs added pressure to styrene production economics. At the same time, disruptions to maritime trade increased freight expenses and made the movement of chemical cargoes more difficult.
From a simple market perspective, the situation was similar to what happens when a product becomes more expensive to make while transportation also becomes harder. Sellers naturally face higher costs, while buyers become more concerned about future availability. These conditions can push market prices higher in a relatively short period.
Why Styrene Prices Increased During Q2 2026
Several factors worked together to create the Q2 price increase.
The first major factor was the rise in energy and feedstock expenses. Styrene production is closely connected to upstream petrochemical markets, so changes in crude oil and benzene prices can have a direct effect on production costs.
The second factor was geopolitical uncertainty related to the Iran–Israel–U.S. conflict. The conflict increased concerns about energy markets, shipping routes, and the reliability of international supply chains.
Another important factor was the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This created difficulties for maritime transportation and affected the movement of cargo between major trading regions. When shipping routes become less reliable, freight costs usually rise and buyers may need to pay more to secure material.
This combination created a strong upward environment for Styrene Prices during much of Q2 2026.
Regional Styrene Price Trends
The quarterly increase was not the same in every market. Some regions recorded relatively moderate growth, while others experienced increases close to or above 25%.
United States
In the United States, styrene export prices from Texas increased by 23.66% in Q2 2026 compared with Q1 2026.
Higher feedstock expenses and concerns about supply availability supported the increase. The disruption in global logistics also increased export-related costs.
However, June brought a significant change. Styrene prices in the U.S. declined by 17.28% compared with May 2026. Improved shipping confidence and lower supply pressure contributed to this monthly correction.
South Korea
South Korean export prices from Busan increased by 19.60% quarter over quarter in Q2 2026.
The market was affected by higher feedstock expenses, regional supply constraints, and disruptions to shipping schedules. Buyers and sellers had to deal with greater uncertainty during the quarter.
In June, prices decreased by 14.41% from the previous month, reflecting improving cargo movements and better market stability.
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabian export prices from Jeddah rose by 11.34% compared with Q1 2026.

In June, prices fell by 18.15% compared with May, indicating that the market reacted quickly once logistics conditions improved.
Mexico
Imported styrene prices at Manzanillo increased by 22.81% quarter over quarter.
As an import-dependent market in this comparison, Mexico was exposed to changes in international quotations, freight expenses, and replacement costs.
June brought a 16.53% monthly decline, supported by improved shipping flows and reduced pressure on import costs.
Kuwait
Kuwait's export prices from Shuwaikh increased by 18.59% in Q2 2026.
Higher energy expenses and transportation difficulties affected the market. Supply planning also became more difficult because of regional uncertainty.
In June, prices decreased by 10.43% compared with May as trade conditions began to normalize.
Germany
German domestic styrene prices at Hamburg increased by 26.42% during Q2 2026.
Higher feedstock costs, energy volatility, and restricted imported material flows contributed to the increase. Procurement costs became more important for domestic buyers as international logistics became uncertain.
In June, prices declined by 17.52% from the previous month.
China
Chinese import prices for cargoes from Saudi Arabia increased by 17.07% in Q2 2026.
Higher landed costs and freight expenses were important drivers. Importers also had to adjust procurement strategies because of uncertain supply conditions.
In June, prices fell by 13.54% compared with May, suggesting that improving transportation conditions reduced some of the earlier pressure.
Brazil
Brazilian import prices at Santos for U.S. cargoes increased by 22.98% quarter over quarter.
Higher international benchmarks, freight costs, and replacement expenses pushed landed costs higher. Importers faced a more difficult purchasing environment during the supply disruption.
June prices declined by 16.15% from May, following improvements in supply confidence and transportation conditions.
Belgium
Belgian domestic prices at Antwerp increased by 25.56% in Q2 2026.
Higher energy and feedstock expenses contributed to the increase, while limited import availability added further pressure. Domestic buyers also became more cautious with purchasing decisions.
In June, prices decreased by 17.75% month over month.
India — CIF Nhava Sheva
Imported styrene prices at Nhava Sheva for Kuwait-origin material recorded a 27.68% increase in Q2 2026 compared with Q1.
Higher freight expenses and feedstock costs affected the landed price of imported material. Disruptions to shipping routes increased uncertainty around Middle Eastern cargoes.

Styrene Price Chart: What Q2 2026 Shows
A Styrene Price Chart for Q2 2026 would show two very different movements.
The first part of the quarter would show a strong upward direction as supply concerns, energy costs, freight expenses, and geopolitical uncertainty pushed prices higher.
The second part, particularly June, would show a downward correction across all markets covered in the source data.
This is important because the monthly decline does not mean that the entire quarterly increase disappeared. Rather, it shows that the market moved from a period of strong upward pressure toward a more balanced environment.
The biggest quarterly increases in the provided data were recorded in India Ex-Kandla at 29.85%, India CIF Nhava Sheva at 27.68%, Singapore at 27.57%, Malaysia at 27.22%, the Netherlands at 26.52%, Germany at 26.42%, and Belgium at 25.56%.
Styrene Price Index Perspective
Looking at the Styrene Price Index conceptually, Q2 2026 can be viewed as a period of significant upward movement followed by partial correction.
An index is useful because it provides a simple way to understand direction rather than focusing only on one market. Across the regions covered here, the common pattern was clear: prices increased from Q1 levels and then declined during June.
The difference between markets was mainly in the size of the movement. Import markets were especially sensitive to freight and landed costs, while domestic markets were also affected by replacement costs, local availability, and purchasing behavior.
What Changed in June 2026?
June was the turning point in the Q2 market.
The Islamabad Memorandum improved geopolitical stability and helped restore confidence in international trade. The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz also improved shipping conditions.
When shipping becomes more predictable, buyers are less likely to worry about sudden shortages. Freight pressure can also ease, and sellers may face less reason to maintain very high offers.
This explains why every market listed in the source material recorded a monthly price decline in June.
The size of the declines varied, but the direction was broadly the same. This created a clear contrast between the quarterly increase and the month-to-month correction.
Styrene Price Forecast: What to Watch Next
A simple Styrene Price Forecast should not be based on the Q2 increase alone. The June correction shows that the market can change quickly when supply and logistics conditions improve.
Going forward, several factors will remain important.
Crude oil prices will continue to influence the cost structure of the petrochemical chain. Benzene prices are also important because they affect styrene production economics.
Shipping conditions will remain another major factor. If major trade routes remain open and freight conditions stay stable, some of the supply pressure seen earlier in Q2 could remain lower.
Demand will also matter. If downstream industries maintain healthy operating rates, styrene consumption could provide support to prices. On the other hand, weaker industrial demand could limit further price increases.
For buyers, the Q2 experience highlights the importance of watching both monthly and quarterly movements. Looking only at a quarterly average can hide a major change that occurs near the end of the period.
