Connections Hint rewards players who can recognize relationships between words that initially appear unrelated. Four words may share an obvious theme, while another group may depend on a phrase, category, abbreviation, or secondary meaning.

When a puzzle becomes difficult, using a hint does not have to mean giving up. A well-chosen clue can redirect your thinking while leaving enough work for you to complete the connection yourself.

The important distinction is between using a hint to learn and using one simply to reveal the solution.

Begin With Your Own Observations

Before looking for help, study all sixteen words carefully. Try grouping words according to different types of relationships rather than immediately committing to the first pattern you notice.

Look for common categories, familiar phrases, related objects, names, actions, and words that can follow or precede another term.

This first attempt is important because it gives you a baseline. If you use a hint immediately, you may miss the opportunity to recognize a pattern that you were already close to discovering.

Identify Where You Are Stuck

Not every difficult puzzle requires the same type of assistance.

Sometimes you can confidently identify one group but have no idea how to separate the remaining words. In another puzzle, you may have several possible groups but cannot determine which one is intentional.

Recognizing the exact problem helps you choose a more useful hint.

A broad category clue can help when you have no direction, while a more specific nudge may be appropriate when you are choosing between two competing ideas.

Choose Hints That Reveal Direction

The smartest hints provide information about how to think, rather than telling you exactly what to select.

For example, a clue suggesting that a group relates to entertainment, food, geography, or common expressions gives you a direction without removing the puzzle completely.

Once you know the general territory, return to the sixteen words and search for the four that genuinely fit.

This keeps the most satisfying part of the solving process in your hands.
