EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers have signed goaltender Richard Bachman on a one-year contract. Cesc Fabregas Chelsea . Bachman, 26, appeared in 52 games for the Oklahoma City Barons last season, posting a record of 26-19-6. He also recorded a .908 save percentage, a 2.99 goals-against average and two shutouts. The five-foot-10, 176 pound goaltender played in three games with the Oilers last season, registering a .916 save percentage and 3.02 goals against average. Bachman made 47 saves in his Edmonton Oilers debut on October 27, 2013 against the Los Angeles Kings. The Salt Lake City, Utah native has accumulated a 14-12-2 record in 35 career NHL games, including a .903 save percentage, a 2.95 goals against average and one shutout. Bachman was selected by Dallas in the fourth round, 120th overall, in the 2006 draft. Andre Schurrle Jersey . Hudson pitched into the eighth inning after having eight days between starts, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Miami Marlins 5-3 on Saturday night. Marco van Ginkel Jersey . - Adam Scott didnt have to look as far down the leaderboard to find players who suddenly are a real threat to win at Bay Hill.MOSCOW -- Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje are second after the short dance at the Rostelecom Cup figure skating Grand Prix, while Canadian teammates Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch are third in pairs. Weaver and Poje, from Waterloo, Ont., scored 61.50 points for their performance to "42nd Street," but said theyd left some marks on the table. "After we completed our program we were happy," Weaver said. "It was clean and it felt comfortable. When the score came up though we were a bit confused. But it means we have to go back and make the program even more bullet-proof." Poje said the couple will take a close took at all the programs technical elements. "We missed some technical points and we need to refine those," he said. "But we improved overall and really captured the essence of the program." Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev of Russia lead after the short dance with 68.42, while Ekaterina Riazanova and Ilian Tkachenko of Russia are third. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Toronto are sixth. Moore-Towers, from St. Catharines, Ont., and Moscovitch, from Toronto, scored 65.65, and completed a triple twist and throw triple loop, but Moscovitch fell on a triple toe. Moscovitch took his fall in stride, saying, "I was working on some yoga positions on the landing." "I dont think we missed a jump all week in training," he added. "But we picked ourselves up and a had strong finish to the program. Weve got some ground to make up in the long and thats going to be our next challenge." Germans Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy lead with 73.25, while Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov of Russia are second. Maxim Kovtuns two confident quads, meanwhile, gave him a big lead after the mens short program. As the only competitor to try two quads, much less complete them, Kovtun ended the day nearly nine points ahead of Japans Tatsuki Machida, who opened with a clean quad but then stepped out of the triple toe loop that was the second jump in his combination. Javier Fernandez of Spain was in third despite falling on his quad. In the womens short program, Russian Julia Lipnitskaia was in the lead, followed by Carolina Kostner of Italy, thhe 2012 world champion. John Obi Mikel Jersey. American teammates Agnes Zawadzki and Mirai Nagasu were one-hundredth of a point apart at third and fourth, though well behind the two leaders. Kovtun is gunning for the sole Russian mens slot in Sochi, which Turin Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko also wants. Plushenko was to have been part of the Rostelecom field, but withdrew from what would have been his first top-tier competition since back surgery this spring. Plushenko blamed his withdrawal on a knee injury. "I was interested in trying my strength against such a fantastic skater," Kovtun said. "But I hope I will have another chance at Russian nationals." Kovtun was strong throughout his flamenco-themed program, the only notable flaw being he was almost sitting on the landing of his second quad to keep his balance. Machida, who won gold at Skate America, lamented that he was not in good condition in Moscow, but said its not clear whats troubling him. "Actually, I dont know," he said when asked about the specifics. Fernandez, the European champion and world bronze medallist , expressed satisfaction despite his fall. "I think I just had a little problem in the pattern and I just need to keep my mind clear," he said. All four of the top women did triple-triple combinations. But Lipnitskaia landed a more difficult triple Lutz-triple toe combo while Kostner, Zawadzki and Nagasu all did triple toe-triple toes. Lipnitskaia, who won gold at Skate Canada, will qualify for the Grand Prix final with a medal of any shade in Moscow. Kostner would qualify with a gold, but Zawadzki, after a seventh-place finish in the Cup of China, is out of contention. The top six skaters in each discipline qualify for the final, which is Dec. 5-8 in Fukuoka, Japan. Lipnitskaias program began on a mysterious note, with her crouched down and drawing figures with her finger on the ice. Asked what thats all about, she chose to keep the meaning hidden. "Everyone can see what he wants to," she said. But once she rose from the crouch, the 2012 junior world champions program was crystal-clear: a clean triple-triple, a precisely landed double Axel and a very fast combination spin at the end. ' ' '
ALBANY, N. Luis Montes .Y. -- New Yorks attorney general has ended an antitrust investigation into the five-month NFL lockout of players after owners and the players union settled it. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman requested information from both the league and the players union three weeks ago about the economic impact. Spokesman Danny Kanner says the inquiry is no longer being pursued and that its purpose was "to mitigate potential widespread economic damage" for New Yorkers. A letter from Schneidermans office to the National Football League said the lockout would "inflict significant economic injuries statewide," starting with lost upstate summer training camps by the New York Jets in Cortland and the New York Giants in Albany. It said the office was "deeply troubled" by the possible implications of league conduct under New York antitrust law. Carlos Pena Jersey .S. Apparently this took place at a soccer stadium for a club match in Brazil.A new era will begin today for Toronto FC as they open the 2014 preseason against DC United in Bradenton, Florida. Midfielder Michael Bradley, one of the teams new designated players, will make his debut, while striker Gilberto could see his first action for TFC in the contest. Bradley, a key member of the US mens national soccer team, is expected to bring stability to the Toronto FC midfield. The 26-year-old was acquired from Serie A side Roma in January for a reported $10 million transfer fee and reportedly will collect a $7.1 million salary. The New Jersey native played every minute of the 2010 World Cup for the United States. Gilberto, a 24-year-old Portuguese forward who is considered a pure goal scorer, was signed by the club in December. &nbssp; The third, and arguably biggest, designated player acquisition of the off-season, Jermain Defoe will not be available for the preseason opener as he remains on loan with Barclays Premier League side Tottenham until the end of February. Marco Fabian Jersey. . In his second tour with Toronto FC, Canadian international player Dwayne De Rosario could also see his first action since rejoining the club in the off-season. De Rosario was reacquired by the team during the MLS re-entry draft and then signed to a new contract. The opposition for the preseason opener will be De Rosarios former club DC United, who, like Toronto FC, are looking to bounce back from a tough season. DC United finished with a 3-24-7 record last season and a league low 16 points. Toronto FC ended the season 6-17-11 in 2013, ninth in the Eastern Conference. ' ' '
BOSTON - Bruins coach Claude Julien gave the on-ice officials a thumbs-up Saturday. Zac Stacy Jersey For Sale . "I have no complaints about the refereeing in this series," he said ahead of Game 5. "I think theyve done a wonderful job in letting both teams play. And at the end of the night, for the most part, the better teams won." Julien seemed to think differently in Game 2, when he was assessed a bench minor for "abusive language" in a night that saw 15 penalties called, including nine against his team. Told that Julien thought the officials were doing a wonderful job, Montreal coach Michel Therrien roared with laughter. "Im sure he said that," he added between chuckles. Asked for his thoughts on the officials, Therrien smiled and said: "Theyre doing a great job." The last two games of the series produced just five penalties in total. Games 1 had seven penalties. The second-round playoff series was tied 2-2 after four games. Robert Quinn Jersey For Sale . -- It wouldnt bother Zack Greinke if he didnt have to travel for the Los Angeles Dodgers opener against Arizona in Australia. Johnny Hekker Elite Jersey .C. -- The Charlotte Bobcats said head coach Steve Clifford underwent a successful procedure Friday to have two stents placed in his heart.DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Jonathan Diaz is easy to spot in the Blue Jays clubhouse. Just look for a big smile atop a compact five-foot-nine, 155-pound body. The 28-year-old Florida native is also hard to miss on the field -- an elegant, mobile shortstop with a slick glove. A career .230 hitter in the minors, Diaz is not likely to stick with a major league club that already has a superstar at shortstop in Jose Reyes, the versatile Ryan Goins at second base and Maicer Izturis as a utility infielder. But his skills are appreciated and have been on display again in the Blue Jays organization after a one-year stint with the Boston Red Sox and former Jays manager John Farrell. "Id heard about them," Toronto manager John Gibbons said of Diazs fielding talents. "Everybodys always said youre not going to find a better shortstop or defender, period. You can put him anywhere out there and hes definitely shown that this spring." Diaz has appeared in the infield and outfield this spring, often as a late inning replacement. He has turned heads with a nifty double play and scored the 10th-inning game-winner on some aggressive base-running in a 4-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles last Sunday. As of Wednesday, he was hitting .077 with one hit in 13 at-bats this spring. He knows defence is his ticket in baseball. "Ive always love to be out there making plays and doing acrobatic things," he said. "Luckily thats kept me in the game for as long as it has." He was given No. 1 to wear by the Jays, the same number as former great Tony Fernandez. "Its a honour to be wearing that number," he said. "He was an unbelievable shortstop." A 12th-round pick -- 360th overall -- by the Jays in the 2006 draft out of North Carolina State, Diaz is happy to be back in the Toronto fold after his year away. "It feels like I never left," he said. "It feels like home. I was here for seven years and then I took a little hiatus with the Red Sox for a year." Boston had its moments, however. He was called up to the majors for the first time, "which was amazing," he said. He saw action in five games, with four at-bats. He had no hits but scored two runs. "I was there for a week . Lance Kendricks Elite Jersey. . Fortunately Im going to get a World Series ring and all that so Im really excited about that. It was a good time," he said. Coincidentally, Diazs debut in the majors came against Toronto and he threw out Reyes from third in Torontos first at-bat. He also scored the winning run against the Jays. These days his locker is just down the row from Reyes in a largely Spanish-speaking neighbourhood of the clubhouse. With a Dominican father and Puerto Rican mother, he grew up with Spanish as his first language. "This is my corner. These are my people," he said with a grin. Diaz says he tries not to think of where he might end up. The goal is the big leagues and the plan is to play as well as possible. After that, que sera sera. "Make sure youre healthy and just try to be ready when the time comes," Diaz said by way of summary. "Im just out there trying to show I can help the team in any way possible." Away from the field, Diaz is married with three daughters -- 10, eight and 16 months. The family makes its home in Dunedin with his wife and daughters joining Diaz "wherever Im at," when school breaks for the summer. "By now, theyre used to it ... Its a crazy fun life," he said. But it has not always been fun for Diaz. In 2011, he was one of the final cuts out of the Jays major league camp. He went to double-A ball and then triple-A in Las Vegas. "I was doing really well," he said. "I went to have dinner, took a cab and woke up in a hospital." There was an accident and Diaz suffered a concussion, lost some hearing and his two front teeth, among other injuries. His wife, then his fiancee, was on the side of the cab that got hit and took the brunt of the impact. She suffered broken ribs, a torn spleen, separated shoulder and cuts. "It was pretty ugly," he said. "But luckily were healthy now." The injuries also took a toll on his playing career. "That took me out of it for a couple of months," he said. "That window, I felt like, was a good chance of being called up at the time." Two false front teeth have not impacted Diazs smile. He seems to savour every baseball moment. ' ' '

MINNEAPOLIS -- Kevin Love is used to carrying the beat-up Minnesota Timberwolves lately. Diego Costa Chelsea . This time, he finally had some help when he sat down to take a rest. Love had 42 points and 16 rebounds, Ricky Rubio tied a franchise high with 17 assists, and the Timberwolves beat Paul George and the Indiana Pacers 104-91 on Wednesday night. J.J. Barea scored 12 points off the bench as the Wolves took control early against the Eastern Conference leaders. "This is one of my favourite wins of the season just because we played a very good team," Love said. "We did it without two key players and we fought hard." George led Indiana with 35 points, but managed just two in the fourth quarter as the Pacers lost for the third time in five games, never once taking a lead. "We just didnt have a whole lot of pop tonight," said David West, who scored four points and struggled guarding Love all night. "This is a game that I thought we would come out and play a little better than we did. We just didnt have it, just a step or two slow." It was Loves eighth straight game with at least 25 points and 10 rebounds, the longest streak since Shaquille ONeal accomplished the same feat Jan. 3-19, 2005. Love has an NBA-best 14 games with 30 points and 10 rebounds this season. "I thought a lot of the shots he made was good defence," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "You have to give him credit. He is an extraordinary player and he played an extraordinary game tonight." In their first game since the All-Star break as they try to make a late-season run and catch Golden State for the final playoff spot in the West, the Wolves came out running and led by 16 when Love came out for a rest 3 minutes into the second quarter. Minnesotas reserves have been unable to hold their ground when Love goes to the bench recently, but they did fine on Wednesday. Barea, the subject of recent trade rumours, scored eight straight points during one stretch -- including a circus shot on the fast break over C.J. Watson that increased Minnesotas lead to 20 with 6:48 left in the half. "When he gets his rest, we need other people to step up," Barea said. "Tonight, we were able to do that." Love scored 18 points in the third quarter, including a jumper from just inside the 3-point line with 0.8 seconds left that pushed the Wolves lead back up to 10 after an Indiana run. Minnesota, playing without injured starters Nikola Pekovic and Kevin Martin, led by as many as 17 in the third quarter. However, with Love sitting to start the fourth, a jumper from Watson early in the quarter cut Indianas deficit to five and gave the Pacers hope. But again, Minnesotas reserves held on. Barea knocked down a jump shot in front of the Wolves bench to extend the lead back to 11 with 8:33 to play and the Wolves never looked back. "Coach came to me and said hes going to give me a little bit of a rest," Love said. "He came to me during the timeout and said These guys are rolling. I said Great, just keep them in as long as you need to. Those guys just did a great job and really stepped up and took advantage of the opportunity tonight." When Love returned, he reeled in a full-court pass from Rubio with his fingertips and slammed it home to give the Wolves a 98-84 lead. Indiana went into the All-Star break stuck in a shooting slump, but shot 50 per cent in a win over Atlanta on Tuesday. The Pacers made just 8 of 22 shots to start Wednesdays game and finished at 40 per cent. "We will reflect on this," George said. "We really didnt want to lose and drop this game. But we have to move on. Its all about the next game." George Hill finished with 13 points and Lance Stephenson had 10 despite missing his first six shots. NOTES: Wolves coach Rick Adelman on how trade rumours impact players as the deadline approaches: "I think it definitely affects them. But its all part of the business, especially now," he said. ... The Pacers are 8-7 on the second game of a back-to-back. "Not really," Vogel answered after he was asked if he, George and Roy Hibbert have caught up on rest after All-Star weekend. "Im a little more tired than usual. Im sure those guys are. But it doesnt mean anything. Still have to go out and win games." The Wolves still dont know when Pekovic or Martin will return. Adelman said Martin will get his injured thumb examined again in the next day or two. .. Wolves centre Ronny Turiaf left in the fourth quarter with a right knee injury and didnt return. Gary Cahill Chelsea Jersey . -- Connor Brown had two goals and an assist as the Erie Otters edged the visiting Belleville Bulls 4-3 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action. Gary Cahill Chelsea . -- Canadian Erik Bedard pitched into the fifth inning in his bid to win a spot in Tampa Bays rotation, helping the Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-3 on Saturday.TAMPA, Fla. -- Nick Foles is comfortable filling in for Michael Vick. Philadelphias backup quarterback threw for a career-high three touchdowns and ran for a fourth Sunday, leading the Eagles to a 31-20 victory over the winless Bucs. "What we do offensively ... we dont change," coach Chip Kelly said. "He did a really good job of spreading the ball around to different receivers. ... I told him to let it rip. Thats what we told him to do, and he did it." Foles finished a long first-quarter scoring drive with a 4-run and threw scoring passes of 12 and 36 yards to DeSean Jackson. He also heaved a 47-yarder to Riley Cooper and threw 44 yards to Cooper to set up his second TD pass to Jackson. The Eagles (3-3), with their new fast-paced offence that Kellys sprung on the NFL after a successful college coaching stint at Oregon, joined the 2007 Patriots and 1983 Chargers as the only teams to gain at 400 yards in each of their first six games. "I feel really comfortable here. I feel comfortable with our personnel, our plays, everything," Foles said. "It helps when you have a great relationship with the players, the coaches, and when you go into the game youre all on the same page. ... Everybody stuck together, and it was another team win." With the injured Vick active but not playing, Foles made his seventh career start and beat the Bucs (0-5) for the second time. He was 1-5 as a rookie a year ago, with that victory also coming on the road at Tampa Bay. In the two games, the second-year pro accounted for 677 yards, seven touchdowns -- five passing and two rushing -- and no interceptions. Kelly shrugged off a question about whether Foles has done enough to earn the starting job over a healthy Vick, who said hes not concerned about whether hes still No. 1. "Hes a great football player. He does exactly what he needs to do when he goes out on the field," Vick said. "Thats not something Im going to worry about. Im worrying about getting healthy." Foles completed 22 of 31 passes for 296 yards and no interceptions. NFL rushing leader LeSean McCoy gained 116 yards on 25 attempts, and Cooper finished with four receptions for 120 yards. In addition to playing through a messy split with Josh Frreeman, the Bucs also have been dealing with three members of the team being diagnosed with MRSA, a staph infection thats resistant to many common antibiotics. Jamal Blackman Jersey. Rookie Mike Glennon threw for 273 yards, including TD passes of 1 and 24 yards to Vincent Jackson in his second start for Tampa Bay, which benched Freeman before later releasing the 2009 first-round draft pick during the teams bye week. Jackson had nine catches for 114 yards, and Tim Wright had seven for 91 yards. The Bucs played without receiver Mike Williams, who was inactive with a sore hamstring. The Eagles won their second in a row to climb back to .500. Tampa Bay, which began with expectations of contending for their first playoff berth since 2007, have dropped 10 of 11 games dating to last season. "Were a competitive franchise whos been on the short end of the stick too many times. We need to get on the right end of the stick. Weve to play our way and coach our way out of it one day at a time. Thats how you do it," Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano said. "Theres no magical answer. Stand to your convictions without being stubborn, and move forward." The Bucs announced Thursday that guard Carl Nicks, who along with kicker Lawrence Tynes was diagnosed with MRSA in August, is being treated for a recurrence on an infection in his left foot. By the end of the day, a third player -- rookie cornerback Johnthan Banks -- was diagnosed with MRSA. Nicks was inactive Sunday, however Banks was cleared to play, with the league and NFL Players Association saying a joint statement that a medical specialist met with the Bucs, supervised the inspection of the teams facilities, conducted medical examinations and agreed with the Tampa Bay medical staff that Banks did not pose a risk of transmission to other players. With the Bucs opening the game with five defensive backs on the field, Banks made his fourth career start and had five tackles. Vick was active but did not play after being injured during last weeks victory over the New York Giants. Foles led an eight-play, 85-yard TD drive on Philadelphias first possession, opening the game with a short pass that McCoy turned into a 44-yard completion and finished by scoring on a quarterback draw.
